A recent change in the recommendations for vaccinations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has resulted in the requirement to vaccinate all individuals from 6 months of age and above. Former guidelines only recommended vaccinations for young children, the elderly and those with certain medical conditions. The new guidelines, however, recommend that everyone over the age of six months get vaccinated against the influenza virus. Sanofi Pasteur, the largest supplier of flu vaccines in the United States, has already shipped the first 70 million doses for this winter’s influenza season. GlaxoSmithKline, another major supplier of vaccines, will start shipping 30 million doses over the next few weeks.
