Work
The Work of Gloria Bornstein Studio incorporates many different mediums into her artistic endeavors. She is a practicing artist in Seattle, Washington. Her work is inspired by the rich agricultural history and traditions of the region. Her works often depict a typical Santa Clara barn, painted in a deep barn red and topped with golden wind vanes. She also includes a windmill and rooster in her works. In addition to these iconic elements, her works often include fruit and leaf patterns, including apple and filige screens.
Collaborations
Collaborations at Gloria Bornstein Studio is a survey of a celebrated Northwest artist’s work spanning 30 years. Works in the exhibition include sculptures and installation pieces, as well as paintings and prints. The exhibition is complemented by works from the Frye Art Museum and the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
Commissions
The Neototems Children’s Garden, designed by Gloria Bornstein, is located near the Seattle Children’s Theatre. The colorful, whimsical sculptures feature seahorses, whales, and other sea creatures. They are nestled in a garden with native plants. A plaque at the site credits the work to Bornstein, who created them in 2002.
Gloria Bornstein’s sculptures have been commissioned by public and private entities for a variety of projects. Commissions include the “International Fountain” at the Seattle Center. Her sculptures include two bronze whales swimming through the lawn next to it, their backs cresting above concrete pavers inlaid to resemble water patterns. Their smooth, broad backs add to the sensation of traveling beneath the Center’s grounds. The sculpture pays homage to a Native American legend about whales swimming between Lake Union and Ellot Bay. The cast-concrete mother whale’s tail is inscribed in Lushootseed language.
